You probably already know that WordPress has a lot of possibilities. If you want to make WordPress even more comprehensive, add extra functionality by installing plugins. For beginners, it is often difficult to choose between the more than 50,000 different plugins that are offered in the WordPress repository.
That is why we have put a number of plugins in a row that you really need to install to make your website a success.
1. Yoast SEO (formerly: WordPress SEO by Yoast)
Yoast SEO (also known as WordPress SEO by Yoast) helps you to improve your position in the search results. The ranking is called that. SEO adds a meta description, SEO title and much more. With Yoast SEO you immediately make a flying start: all relevant information for search engines is immediately put right. This is the plugin that we always install first.
Jetpack a perfect plugin and installs in one go a lot of the standard features that are already standard on WordPress.com. Especially for beginners, this is an incredibly handy plugin that immediately helps you on your way. It provides insight into your visitors, speed improvements and the security of your website.
3. WP Super Cache
With caching you make your website faster. By shortening the loading time of your website you have less frustration with your visitors and you score better on Google. There are several caching plugins available, but WP Super Cache is probably the most popular (of the free plugins).
4. iThemes Security (formerly: Better WP Security)
iThemes Security is a popular plugin to make your WordPress website a lot safer. In our blog, we already wrote about this plugin. In our opinion, a must-have plugin to keep hackers out.
5. UpdraftPlus Backup and Restoration
UpdraftPlus ensures that your WordPress installation is regularly (manually or automatically) backed up. With a back-up of all files and your database, you can quickly restore your website to a recent version in case of problems. You can save backups on your own server, or store them in the cloud. Well safe!
Akismet is already installed by default when you start using WordPress. This plugin keeps your spam away from reactions to blog articles. It is a free plugin for non-commercial websites. Do you also want to use Akismet on business websites? From a few euros per month, your website is secured with Akismet.
7. Contact Form 7
Contact Form 7 is probably the most popular (free) plugin to quickly put forms on your website. You create an infinite number of forms, not just for “contact”. If you want to have a good form without the use of a pooh, this plugin is a good start.
WP-Optimize is a very important plugin for every WordPress site. It ensures that the database is cleaned up and optimized. You have no knowledge of MySQL or if necessary. WP-Optimize deletes all unnecessary data from the database such as automatic drafts, unapproved (spam) responses and more. This makes your website faster.
With TinyPNG – Compress JPEG & PNG images you can automatically compress all (JPG and PNG) images from your WordPress site. Reducing images will make your website a lot faster. That is better for your visitors and better for Google. You install TinyPNG in a few minutes, but you do need a (free) API key.
10. Simple 301 Redirects
Simple 301 Redirects allows you to easily create redirects from one page to another. 301 Redirects are important if you delete a page or replace it with a more recent page. You then let search engines know that the old page has been deleted and that visitors automatically have to be redirected to the new page.
